A beautiful and scenic drive to Kotilingeshwara Temple of Karnataka is a famous Hindu shrine. This temple is dedicated to the Lord Shiva. The famous legend about this temple is that Lingas were first placed at what became the temple site by a former atheist who had become a devotee of Shiva. This temple is mainly visited by the Hindu lord Shiv Devotee. The fame of this temple is, that temple has one of the largest Shiva lingams in the world.

Kotilingeshwara Temple Darshan

Let us tell you that, Kotilingeshwara Temple is located in the village of Kammasandra in Kolar district, Karnataka State of India. It is a modest land famous for the largest Shivlinga in the world. The main attraction of the temple “ಕೋಟಿಲಿಂಗೇಶ್ವರ ದೇವಸ್ಥಾನ” is a huge linga measuring 108 ft tall and a 35 ft tall Nandi idol. It is surrounded by lakhs of small Lingas spread over an area of 15 acres approx  61,000 m2. The Nandi idol is installed over a platform that is 60 feet in length, 40 feet in width, and 4 feet in height.

A large number of Shiv Devotees came here to perform Prayers and Abhishekam in front of Lord Shiva. The special thing about this temple is open for donations of Shivalingas of various sizes which can be installed with the name of the donor embedded on it. In the year 1980, the temple was initiated and constructed by Swami Sambha Shiva Murthy. Kotilingeshwara Temple attracts millions of tourists to Maha Shivaratri.

Kotilingeshwara Temple Dress Code

There are some specified Dress codes at the Shri Kotilingeshwara Swamy Temple. It is prohibited to violate the dress code rules. These rules are listed below;

  • Men’s Dress Code => The preferred dress is a Shirt and trousers, Dhoti or Pyjamas with upper clothes.
  • Women’s Dress Code => The preferred dress is a Saree or half-saree with a blouse or churidar with pajama and upper cloth.
  • Jeans and shorts for girls are strictly prohibited. Pilgrims will not allowed if they do not follow the Temple dress code.
  • These rules apply to foreigners too. Shorts, mini-skirts, middies, sleeveless tops, low-waist jeans, and short-length T-shirts are not allowed.

Important Points about Kotilingeshwara Temple

  1. Shri Kotilingeshwara Swamy Temple has the largest Shivlinga in the World. This Shivlinga size is 108 ft (33 m) tall and 35 ft (11 m) tall Nandi idol.
  2. There are also 90+ lakhs of other Shivalingas of different sizes.
  3. The 33 mts high Shivalinga and 11 mts high Lord Nandi, the Bull are the main attractions of the temple.
  4. This temple is located in located in Kammasanadra, a small village in the Kolar District.
  5. There are 11 smaller temples dedicated to the other deities like Lord Vishnu, Brahma, Mahesh, Rama, Goddess Annapoorneshwari Goddess Karumaari Amma etc.
  6. The Ticket Booking Counter opens at 07:00 AM for Booking.
  7. Free Darshan Timings: 9:00 am to 10:00 am and 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm.
  8. Anna Prasada (Free Meals) Timings: 12.30 pm to 3.30 pm and 7.00 pm to 8.00 pm.
