Sree Vaikom Mahadeva Temple (ശ്രീ വൈക്കം മഹാദേവ ക്ഷേത്രം) of Kerala is dedicated to the God Shiva, who is also known by various names like Shambhu (Benign), Shankara (Beneficent), Mahesha (Great Lord), and Mahadeva (Great God). The temple, along with the Ettumanoor Shiva Temple and the Kaduthuruthy Shiva Temple is considered a powerful place of Shiva. The belief behind the significance of this temple is that if a devotee worships all three temples before the Ucha puja, all his/ her wishes are fulfilled. It is one of the oldest temples in Kerala and is famous for its Vaikom Ashtami festival.
Another significance of this temple is the ancient Sanskrit texts, Bhargava Purana & Sanalkumara Samhita mention this place as Vaiyaghra Geham and Vaiyaghra Puram. As per legends, Vyaghrapada Maharshi got Siva Darsana here, called Vyaghrapadapuram. This Temple is considered a powerful trisome.
