Thyagaraja Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati which is located in Thiruvarur state of Tamil Nadu. Here Lord Shiva temple is worshipped as “Thyagarajaswami” also known as Putridankondar. The idol of lord Shiva is present in the form of Lingam. Goddess Parvati is known as Neelotpalambika and is worshipped with the same name. This is one of the strongest Peethas of Shakti. The mention of this temple can be seen in Nayanars, a saint poet. Thayagaraja temple is a very old temple constructed by the Chola dynasty (a ruling dynasty in the 9th century). After the establishment of this temple, another dynasty (Sangama Dynasty, Saluva Dynasty, and Tuluva Dynasty) expanded it. Now the temple is maintained by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department of the Government of Tamil Nadu. You can see crowds over there at the Chariot Festival during the March month. The temple opens at 5 AM morning and closes at 9 PM.
