The Ananthapura Lake Temple is a very famous pilgrimage place in India. It is also known as അനന്തപുര തടാകക്ഷേത്രം. It is built in the middle of a lake and it is the only lake temple in Kerala. This temple is located 30 Km from Bekal in Kasaragod district, Kerala, India. It was built in the 9th century and this temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. If you are a devotee of Lord Vishnu, you can visit this temple. Every year many devotees visit this temple because it is a very attractive and ancient place in India.

In this, the Lord Vishnu is the main deity who is surrounded by the other deities. The Lake Temple has a guardian crocodile named Babiya. This temple has many attractive things, especially Babiya the crocodile which feeds on the sweet rice known as Pongal prasad.

Some people thought that Lord Vishnu resides in a small cave in this temple and that the dark cave is protected by Babiya, but this is a myth. This temple has a beautiful atmosphere and the paintings of the temple are amazing. The Ananthapura Lake Temple is about 5 Km from Kumbla and it is the nearest railway station. The pooja is performed daily in this temple.

Ananthapura Lake Temple History

The Ananthapura Lake Temple is a Hindu Mandir in Kerala, South India. This is the only lake temple in Kerala and is believed to be the original seat of Ananthapadmanabha Swamy. The Babiya was a crocodile who iced in the lake of the temple and was also famed for being vegetarian. She died aged 75 on 9 October 2022. It is believed that she was fully vegetarian and she never harmed any human.

In this temple, an interesting place to keep in mind while you visit the temple is a cave to the right corner of the lake. It is believed that Lord Vishnu resides in a cave in this temple. This temple has some myths. It was at this place where Divakara Mni Vilwamangalam, the great Brahmin saga, did penance and performed poojas. Most people have different thoughts and myths about this temple.
