Bhadrachalam Temple Darshan Timings 2026 — Kalyanam, Bhakta Ramadas & Complete Guide

Bhakta Ramadas spent the royal treasury on renovating Bhadrachalam Temple — gold that belonged to the Mughal governor Tanisha, not to him. He was imprisoned. From his cell, he prayed. And according to the legend that millions of devotees in Telangana believe — Lord Rama and Sita appeared before Tanisha in the night, paid every gold coin themselves, and demanded Ramadas’ release. The next morning, the accounts were settled. Ramadas was freed. The temple on the banks of the Godavari that Ramadas gave his freedom for — Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy Temple, Bhadrachalam — is where Lord Rama is believed to have stayed during his forest exile with Sita and Lakshmana. Every day here, the celestial wedding of Rama and Sita is conducted — the Nithya Kalyanam. Every year on Rama Navami, lakhs come to witness it on the grandest scale.

The Bhakta Ramadas Story

The most beloved story at Bhadrachalam:

Kancherla Gopanna (Bhakta Ramadas) — 17th century — was a devotee of Lord Rama appointed as the tasildar (revenue official) of Bhadrachalam by the Mughal governor Tanisha.

He used the collected revenue — gold meant for the Mughal treasury — to renovate and beautify the Bhadrachalam temple.

He was arrested and imprisoned in Golconda for the misappropriation.

From prison, he composed the devotional songs known as Ramadasu Keertanas — considered among the finest Telugu devotional compositions — addressed directly to Lord Rama, asking “Why have you abandoned me when I spent everything for you?”

According to devotional tradition, Lord Rama and Sita appeared before Tanisha in the night, presented the exact amount of gold coins, and said these were sent by “Rama and Sita of Bhadrachalam” for the release of their devotee.

Ramadas was freed. The coins are said to still be preserved in the temple treasury.
