Dakor Ranchhodraiji Temple Timings 2026 — Mangala Aarti, Bhog Schedule & Complete Guide

In the 18th century, an elderly devotee named Vijaysinh Bodana walked from his home in Dakor to Dwarka — a distance of several hundred kilometres — seventy-two times to do darshan of Lord Krishna. On the 72nd visit, at the age of 72, he could not face the long journey back. He sat before the deity and prayed. That night, Lord Krishna told him to carry the idol to Dakor. Bodana did. The priests at Dwarka woke the next morning to find the idol gone — replaced, according to tradition, by a stone of equal weight in gold. The idol of Ranchhodraiji has been in Dakor ever since. The name “Ranchhodraiji” means the king who left the battlefield — when Krishna abandoned his fight with the demon king Jarasandha, not from cowardice, but to protect his people from a meaningless war. The deity who runs from battle and the devotee who walked 72 times — both acts of the same love.

Why “Ranchhodraiji” — The Name Explained

Ranchh = battlefield | Chod = left/abandoned | Raiji = king

Ranchhodraiji = “The King Who Left the Battlefield”

This refers to a specific episode: The demon king Jarasandha repeatedly attacked Krishna’s kingdom of Mathura. Rather than continue fighting a pointless, destructive war, Krishna chose to relocate his entire kingdom — moving his people to the new city of Dwarka on the Gujarat coast. He abandoned the battlefield — not from fear, but from wisdom.

This act of strategic retreat — protecting people over ego — is what the name celebrates.
