Let us tell you that Kamakhya Temple is also famous with the name of the “Kamrup Kamakhya” located on the Nilachal Hill towards the west of Guwahati city in Assam, India. This temple is purely dedicated to the Goddess Kamakhya, also known as Kali and Maha Tripura Sundari, the granter of desires. According to Hindu mythology, there are 51 Shakti Peethas places on the earth and Kamakhya is one of most oldest temples of Shakti Peethas. Moreover, Kalika Purana said that the Kamakhya temple denotes a spot where Goddess Sati used to retire her amour with Lord Shiva secretly.
Although many people believed that, the Kamakhya temple was the place of Black magic and Tantriks, where animal sacrifices were observed. The temple represents the merging of Aryan and non-Aryan practices and faiths in Assam. The various titles given to the goddesses correspond to regional Aryan and non-Aryan goddesses. Yogini Tantra states that Yogini Pitha’s religion is non-Aryan and of Kirata origin. Among the priests trained by Naranarayana, there was a custom that the matrilineal Garos worshipped at the Kamakhya site by offering sacrifices of pigs.
