Panchamirtham (பஞ்சாமிர்தம்) — The Sacred Prasad Only from Palani
Palani’s Panchamirtham is not available anywhere else in the world — and its GI (Geographical Indication) tag confirms this.
Panchamirtham = 5 sacred ingredients:
- Banana (வாழைப்பழம்) — Nenthiram variety grown in Palani region

Navapashanam Idol — The Most Unique Idol in India
Lord Murugan’s idol at Palani is unlike any other in the world — made from Navapashanam (நவபாஷாணம்) — nine poisonous herbs and minerals.
The idol was crafted by Siddha Bhogar — one of the 18 great Tamil Siddha saints — around 3,000 years ago. Bhogar created the idol from 9 specific herbal minerals, each with healing properties. When Abhishekam is performed and the liquid runs off the idol, it carries medicinal properties — devotees collect this sacred runoff (teertha) and consume it for healing.

The Palani Trap — Two Things Most Visitors Miss
Trap 1 — Rope Car at the Top: Thousands of devotees climb 693 steps, reach the top, and only then discover the rope car. They then climb back down the same 693 steps — knees suffering — unaware that a rope car to the base was 50 metres from the temple exit. Check for the rope car exit before starting your descent.
Trap 2 — Fake Panchamirtham: Shops at the foothill sell Panchamirtham in attractive packaging with temple imagery. This is not the temple’s Panchamirtham. The authentic prasad is available only at the designated counter inside the temple complex — after darshan. The street version has different ingredients, different preparation, and no connection to the Navapashanam Abhishekam.

- Panchamirtham: Buy only from inside the temple complex. Refuse all foothill vendors.
