Vadapalani Murugan Temple Darshan Timings 2026 — Special Darshan, Golden Chariot & Complete Guide | Chennai

In the late 19th century, a man named Annaswamy Naicker walked to Palani — 500 kilometres from Chennai — seeking Lord Murugan’s blessings for a cure. He found an inspiring image of the Lord there. He returned to Vadapalani and built a thatched hut. Inside it, he placed a painted picture of Lord Murugan and began worshipping every day. People noticed. They came. They prayed. Miracles were reported — diseases cured, jobs found, marriages solemnised. Word spread across Chennai. The thatched hut was rebuilt in stone in 1920. The Rajagopuram rose 40 metres, its eastern face carved with all 108 Bharatanatyam poses. Today, approximately 7,000 couples marry in this temple every year — the most popular wedding temple in Chennai. The idol here is identical to the one at Palani. Vadapalani is called the “Palani of the North.” The first light of darshan opens at 5:00 AM. Tuesday evening: 3 PM — one hour earlier than other days.
